Andhra Pradesh unit of Congress on Thursday alleged that the power reforms, initiated by the ruling TDP three years ago, had failed to produce any tangible results as "the entire state continued to reel under darkness due to disruption in power supply".

Speaking to newspersons in Hyderabad, the party spokesman K Rosaiah alleged that the impact of the power reforms, being assiduously implemented by the government, has left much to be desired as there was power cuts for four hours in urban areas while power cuts in rural areas extend for six hours on a daily basis.

The promised nine hour power supply to the agriculture sector was also not being implemented by the government he alleged and said "the power cuts have become a common feature throughout the state".

Rosaiah, who held the power portfolio in the erstwhile Congress government in the state, deplored that the TRANSCO (Transmission Corporation of the Electricity Department) has not only failed to ensure proper power supply to the consumers but was also found to be "slack" in recovery of dues from defaulters.
