SA demands Match-Fixing tapes
Shamila Batohi, Chief Prosecutor in the King Commission of enquiry and Police Captain Geoff Edwards who are in New Delhi to collect evidence against the South African players involved in the Match-fixing scandal, met Delhi Police Commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma on Monday.
The South African ofiicials have demanded custody of voiuminous tapes containing the recorded conversations of axed South African Captain Hansie Cronje with the bookies.
It was on the basis of these tapes that the Crime Branch had registered a criminal case against the four South African Cricket players, who were the members of the Pepsi series played in India earlier this year.
Briefing newspersons on the meeting the, Joint Commissioner of Police K K Paul said that the tapes were case property and it could be handed over after permission was granted by the court.
