Normal life has been paralysed in Itanagar on Friday following a 12-hour bandh call given by all Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) in support of its five-point charter of demands.
The markets remained closed, public vehicles were off the road, educational institutions, banks and post offices did not function in the state capital, while attendence in government offices was thin, according to official sources.
The AAPSU charter of demands are Rs 100 crore additional fund allocation for educational development in the state, 100 per cent job reservation policy in all categories of service under state government, reduction of sales tax.
It also asks for deletion of Yubins from scheduled tribe list and quick decision on deportation of Chakma and Hajong refugees and strict checking on influx of foreign nationals in the state.
State information and public relations minister Takam Sanjoy described the bandh call given by the AAPSU as unfortunate and uncalled for and said that the state government is seriously thinking of accepting some of the just demands.
