Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Sunday visited Nalbari and reviewed the law and order situation there following the killing of nine people, including a woman, on Saturday evening.
The chief minister said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident and urged people not to panic but help the government to track down the killers and thwart their attempts to destabilise the situation in the state.
He said that the killings could be ''politically motivated'' and people should be cautious against such attempts by those with vested interests.
The chief minister described the pamphlets with the letterhead of Asom Tiger Force, which were found from the massacre spot, as 'mysterious' and said that this could be an attempt to mislead people and the government. Mahanta said that no stone would be left unturned to nab the killers of these innocent persons and asked people to cooperate with the state government to help restore peace and normalcy in the state.
The chief minister reviewed the law and order situation with director general of police P V Sumant and other senior civil and police officials at the Nalbari circuit house and urged them to maintain strict vigil to ensure that such incidents do not recur. Bureau Report
