Fifty-seven people, including 12 security force personnel and 13 militants, were killed and 125 civilians injured in militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in the first fortnight after the Ramzan ceasefire came into force on November 28. "There is no let-up in the killing by militants if the first two weeks are any indication," an official spokesman said. Thirty-two civilians lost their lives in militant attacks in the last fortnight while the number of such casualties in the preceding two weeks was 34, he said. The number of civilians injured in grenade attacks and explosions climbed to 125 during the ceasefire period, while it was only 35 in the proceeding fortnight.
He said that 12 security personnel were killed during this period. However, due to observation of the ceasefire by the security forces, casualties among militants have gone down, the spokesman added. Against 42 militants killed in the 15 days prior to the ceasefire, only 13 were killed in retaliatory action by security forces during the period. Bureau Report
