Unfenced Poland created the biggest upset of the Olympic men's hockey so far with a sensational 4-1 win over gold medal contenders Spain in Sydney on Tuesday.
The poles, returning to Olympic hockey after 20 years, rode on a two-goal burst early in the first half to stun the the Atlanta silver-medallists in group B.
The defeat, coming off a 1-1 draw against South Korea, left the Spaniards facing elimination from the competition in a group that also includes hosts Australia, India and Argentina.
Poland, who squeaked into the games by finishing fourth at the Olympic qualifiers in Osaka in March, scored twice in as many minutes in the first quarter to take early charge of the game. Bureau Report
