Tension had been brewing between the sections of the local Hindu and Christian communities after a bishop went on a hunger strike from Tuesday in protest against what he alleged was the ''demolition of a church and conversion of its owner to Hinduism,'' by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists. Bishop Hazra Sarguna of the Evangelical Church of India (ECI), Tamil Nadu, has been on protest at Chikhli village, 7 km from Vyara in Surat district.
