Aaghaaz: A film worth a skip
Director - Yogesh Ishwar Starring - Sunil Shetty, Sushmita Sen, Namrata Shirodkar, Suman Ranganathan and Sharad KapurAaghaaz loses out on the fact that it is a remake of a South Indian film with a lot of sermonising in it. This formula works out in the South, as heroes there are larger than life, but backfires miserably in Hindi films. The film has a few entertaining moments in the first half but it is too predictable a film for anyone to enjoy it.

Take an old done-to-death formula, add a certain twist and package it in the MTV style and Aaghaaz is born. A remake of Telugu hit, Sivaiyya, Aaghaaz is a reminder of what mentality plagues Bollywood.
The film is a routine vendetta story where the hero`s sister gets raped. Five hundred people living in the residential complex know about it but nobody comes forward to do anything. To add a little twist, the hero (Sunil Shetty) does not pull out guns and run after villains but instead takes on the society. Of course, in the end they all get together to finish off the villains. But that happens only in the second half. In the first part of the film, Sunil Shetty romances Sushmita Sen, a police officer but ends up marrying Suman Ranganathan, his guruji`s daughter, whom he marries to protect the reputation of her family, when she gets pregnant by another man. So the story of the film runs on three tracks, including Johnny Lever`s comedy running on its own stream without any relation. Of course, the rape issue is made dominant.
Satish Kaushik`s Humara Dil Aap Ke Paas Hai had a similar problem plaguing it. Sunil Shetty continues to improve his acting skills with every film but in Aaghaaz, an old worn out script limits him. Sharad Kapur and Suman Ranganathan playing brother-sister have nothing much to say. The music of the film is average. In short, the film is worth a skip. Bureau Report
