The Russian President was seen off at the airport by Maharashtra Governor Dr P C Alexander, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and a host of other dignitaries.
Putin, who stayed overnight in the metropolis, drove straight to Chhatrapati Shivaji airport from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
Putin, the first Russian President to visit the premier nuclear establishment of the country, rounded off his visit by calling upon India to be a signatory to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
