The chief of the army staff General S Padmanabhan on Wednesday ended his three days visit to Kashmir, his first visit to the state after assuming charge. Declaring that Pakistan is intensifying firing on the line of actual control and sending across more and more trained militants and sophisticated weapons. The situation on the line of actual control is uneasy with daily exchange of fire, the army chief told a press conference in Srinagar. Describing the LoC as active he said daily exchange of fire between the Indian and enemy troops is a routine activity. He said that Pakistan has redoubled its efforts to keep the pot of proxy war boiling. He said that he visited several forward posts and was delighted to see the troops, particularly younger officers ready to face any challenge. H M Khanna Goc.Northern Command, said that Pakistan's only option after the Kargil defeat was to increase the proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir but its move to send in more militants was checked by 'our strict vigil' due to which the number of infiltration is much less this year. “Pakistan is now sending militants through Pir Panchal and Poonch sectors,” he said, “but we are there to take care of them.''
