A nine-member central team led by senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Sudhir Kumar, arrived in Jaipur on Sunday evening to take stock of the drought in Rajasthan. As many as 3.30 crore people and four crore livestock in 30583 villages in 31, out of a total of 32 districts have been affected with famine this year. Dholpur was the lone district remaining unaffected. Rajasthan is reeling under a drought for a third successive year. Mr Sudhir Kumar said that the team after studying the famine situation would submit a report to the Centre. The Rajasthan government has already sent a detailed memorandum to the union government seeking over Rs 2000 crore financial assistance to provide relief. State Home and Relief Minister Gulab Singh Shaktawat informed the team about the famine and stated that this year the situation was more ''severe'' and the state was facing serious water and fodder problem. The state was experiencing difficulty in arranging the fodder as the neighbouring states were also hit by this natural calamity, he added. The team in two groups would tour the affected areas from Monday and come back to the state capital on December 6 for discussions with chief minister and the chief secretary. Bureau Report
