The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday directed the management of the National Herald group of newspapers to disburse one month's salary before Id-ul-fitr and two months' salary before March, 2001 to its workers.
The division bench, comprising justice I M Quddusi and
justice Ikramul Bari of the Lucknow bench, passed the orders
on the petition filed earlier by the employees of the Associated Journals Ltd (National Herald group comprising National Herald, Nav Jeevan and Quami Awaz).
The management of the associated journals had declared lock out in these newspapers, being published in English, Hindi and Urdu, from Lucknow in 1996.
The workers had approached the high court and it is due
to the orders of the high court that the workers got some relief and the lock out was stayed. The workers and the employees have been getting some salary from time to time as per directions of the high court.
