Large screen successes have proved failures on television. Some of the filmy flops have clicked. But others? The less said about Mukul Dev’s attempts at comedy in Gharwalli Uparwalli the better. If facial contortions were tantamount to comic brilliance, then Mr. Dev would have pumped up I-run value of the sitcom by leaps and bounds. But what’s it about bigamy that serial makers find so funny? On Sab TV there’s a horrendous ha-ha-kar obscenely entitled Double Sawari where Ashok Saraf scuttles between a Tamil and a Punjabi wife.What sort of messages do such serials send out to the home-viewing public? That bigamy is fun?
