India has said it would respond to Pakistan`s offer of `maximum restraint` along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir after examining the text of the statement made by Pakistan Foreign Secretary Inamul Haque. An external affairs ministry spokesman said that the government was awaiting the transcript of the press conferences of Haque from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Haque told reporters in Islamabad that Pakistan armed forces along the LoC would observe maximum restraint to strengthen and stabilise the ceasefire.
Home Minister L K Advani said that the government is evaluating Pakistan`s response, but `our main worry is that cross-border terrorism and arms supplies must stop immediately.` Advani on Friday had asked Islamabad to heed New Delhi`s ceasefire offer to Kashmiri militants during the month of Ramzan and stop cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir for lasting peace in the region.
