The corps of Air Defence Artillery (ADA), which was well prepared to track and shoot enemy aircraft entering Indian Air Space during the Kargil conflict, displayed its state of art equipments on Wednesday on the eve of its seventh anniversary.
ADA, deployed in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, performs critical battlefield mission of preserving combat power and freedom of manoeuvre of combat forces.
The equipment on display here included latest acquisitions -- Tunguska weapons system and reporter radar equipped to provide protection from air attacks at low and medium levels.
They also guard strategic key installations like dams and nuclear installations across the country and critical assets of the field force in the combat zone, ADA Director General Lt Gen Amitava Mukherjee told reporters.
He said with the rapid strides made in the development and application of air power, air defence had emerged as one of the principal battlefield function areas.
The corps was carved out of the regiment of artillery in 1994 due to operational necessity and to keep pace with the dynamics of modern day warfare.
