Acting under the orders of the Supreme Court, urban development ministry on Wednesday asked all the polluting industries in the capital to close down their units
or shift from residential and non-conforming areas.
In an appeal, Urban Development Minister Jagmohan asked all the 38,936 units to cooperate with the authorities concerned to facilitate the task of implementation of the
court's order in a smooth and orderly manner.
The ministry has been designated as the nodal agency by the apex court in the matter, he told reporters and added that the role assigned to the nodal agency was that of a
supervisor.
Jagmohan said that in the light of the court order, directions were issued on Tuesday to all implementing agencies to carry out the the court order within the stipulated time frame.
He said that the Supreme Court had on December 7 given four weeks' time for the purpose and had said no orders of stay or injuction passed by any other court shall prevent any action being taken against them. He said that to ensure smooth implementation of the court order, the cases of the polluting units had been divided into two broad categories - polluting units which applied for relocation and have been allotted plots at the relocation site, and polluting units which did not apply for relocation or whose applications for relocation were rejected
Jagmohan said that the BJP MP's seeking amendment in the master plan were likely to meet him on Thursday to discuss the issue.
