A delegation of election observers from the European Union (EU) currently in Sri Lanka, had a first hand experience of the degree of violence unleashed by political parties during campaign when they had gone to attend a rally in Central Kandy late Saturday. Concerned about the election violence, head of the EU observers mission, John Cushnahan said, ''The delegation take this matter very seriously and expect it to be investigated to a prosecution.'' Tension prevailed in Kandy, 120 kms north of Colombo on Saturday afternoon when a cabinet minister's son was allegedly involved in a shooting incident, followed by police firing outside the DIG's office to disperse angry opposition United National Party supporters, according to local media reports.
