Three people have died and 40 were injured as an Aeromexico plane skidded off the runway in Reynosa, in storm-battered northeastern Mexico, an official of the Mexican airline told AFP. Upon landing in heavy rain, the DC-9 crashed in a neighbourhood on Friday that abuts the runway, killing three people who lived there, the spokesman said.

He said that the 40 people who were injured were among about 100 passengers and crew members aboard the plane that were on the flight, which arrived from the city of Matamoros. Much of the region has been affected by pounding rains that continued even after Keith, once a powerful hurricane, was downgraded to a tropical depression on Friday. Bureau Report
