Curfew was clamped in Biharsharif town on Monday morning after police fired warning shots to disperse a hostile mob protesting against shifting of a temple site at Ambar Chowk in Biharsharif in Nalanda district of Bihar
Police fired four rounds to control the mob who threw stones at a police station.
Officials said that trouble began after the district administration shifted a durga idol from a land belonging to the state welfare board to another despite resistance by the local people.
“Extra personnel of rapid action force, Bihar military police and central reserve police force were sent in from capital Patna to the town,” the sources said.
Curefew was imposed after a high-level meeting last night attended by senior civil and police officials, including director general of police K A Jacob, who have been camping in Biharsharif since Sunday. Bureau Report
