The incident took place when councillor Hasmukh Patel visited a slum in Bapod Vadodara where the demolition work was in progress.

The locals booed him as soon as he arrived and then they dragged and tied him to a tree, media reports said. He was later rescued by the police.

A YouTube video also showed his clothes were torn and he looked troubled.

Gujarat will go to polls in December this year.
