New Delhi: Atrial fibrillation (Afib or AF) is a common type of abnormal heart rhythm and a major cause of stroke. It can also increase your risk of heart failure and other heart-related complications.

In most cases, people with atrial fibrillation may have no symptoms, and are unaware of their condition until it's discovered during a physical examination. But, when symptoms do appear, they include – palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, etc,.

  • Keeping blood pressure and cholesterol levels under control.
  • Not smoking.
  • Avoiding or limiting alcohol and caffeine.
  • Taking medications as prescribed and having regular follow-up appointments with your doctor if you have been diagnosed with Afib.
