New Delhi: Dating apps like Tinder and others are taking the world by storm and are a boon for single people, especially youngsters, who are looking for a partner or companionship.

However, according to dentists, dating apps are elevating people's risk of getting infected with a cancer-causing virus.

How is it connected? Through sexual activity which involves oral intimation, says a report in the Daily Mail.

As per the report, experts have warned that a huge number of the population is at risk of being infected with human papilloma virus (HPV).

HPV is a virus that is spread through sexual contact and causes warts in many parts of the body. Some types of HPV are also linked to cervical cancer.

While most infections disappear, some strains can cause cancer. It has also been linked to genital warts, penile, anal, throat, head and neck cancer, the Daily Mail reported.

"Data used to model sexual behaviour are out of date, and factors such as the recent introduction of dating apps may have led to significant changes in behaviour over the last few years, which have not been taken into account" the British Dental Association (BDA) told The Sun.
