New Delhi: Papaya is considered as one of the healthiest food. Who doesn't like to eat this healthy fruit? Well, it is well known that eating papaya is good for health but nobody knows that it also has certain disadvantages if one happens to consume it in excess.

Here are some side effects of this fruit when consumed in excess which we should know:

Carotenemia

Excessive consumption of papaya might cause discoloration of the skin, medically known as carotenemia because of the presence of beta carotene in the fruit. It is a condition where your eye white, soles, and palms turn yellow, as if you are under the attack of jaundice.

Respiratory disorders

One should not consume too much of papaya as it can trigger various respiratory disorders, such as obstructed breathing,wheezing, continuous congestion of the nasal passages, hay fever and asthma

Skin rashes

Papaya is good for skin as it contains rich amount of papain enzyme as well as antioxidants. However, not every skin type reacts in a positive way and may experience an itchy, dry skin causing rashes.

Constipation

Though papaya is known to be an effective natural remedy for constipation but too much of it might affect negatively. When your fiber intake is high, the quantity of water should also increase, failing which your stools will harden and cause you constipation.

Upset stomach

The fruit is good for stomach but eating too much of it might upset your gastrointestinal system. The abundant presence of fiber along with the latex from the papaya’s skin causes upset stomach.
