Miranda House becomes first DU college to install digital 'talking signage' for visually impaired students

New Delhi: Delhi University's Miranda House has become the first college to install digital talking sinages in the college campus to help visually-challenged students.

These digital sinages will help all the blind students inside the premise to to figure out their way across the college campus.

With this move, it will not only be easier for these students but this initiative makes technology more accessible to these children.

How does it work?

The college authorities have installed 6-inch square scan code which is at an inch's distance from the wall.

A student needs to download the customised app on his/her smartphone and when he comes within three feet close to the code, a verbal message will automatically come out with details regarding the location.

It will further direct them that how many steps should be taken to reach a particular place from their current location.

Both the students and teachers have been helping students to install the app on their phones.

This move will make roaming inside the college campus very easy for these students.
