Now, News agency ANI reports that food retailers in Uttarakhand's Haldwani district are openly selling plastic rice in the market.


Adding woes to consumers' health, rumours of alleged sale of plastic rice at some grocery stores in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana are doing the rounds on social media, triggering panic among the public.


With similar cases now being reported more often, it is important for the people to be more cautious while buying foods as well as take steps to avoid getting duped by the fake food suppliers and manufacturers, more importantly to avert adverse health effects of plastic.


Plastic, made of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds, is dangerous for human health. The health effects of plastic include - endocrine disruption, which can lead to cancers, birth defects, immune system suppression and developmental problems in children.


Plastic, which is one of the most preferred materials in today's industrial world, is also posing serious threat to environment in many direct and indirect ways.


But, the good news is that you can easily find out whether the rice you bought from the grocery store is real or fake, using some tricks – in fact, you can try it at home.
