New Delhi: Studies have shown that music is one of the best medicines to reduce stress and anxiety. It's relaxing, comforting, soothing and this has been scientifically proven.

Different people have different choices and preferences with regard to the genre when it comes to relieving stress. This also means that each person has a separate selection of songs that they like to listen to when they feel burdened with stress.

Now, however, scientists have found the one song that they believe is the most relaxing song in the world.

Yes! Stress cheat-code alert! Neuroscientists in the UK claim to have identified that one song that will destress you and soothe your soul more than any other song in the world.

The song was composed by a team of sound therapists and Manchester band Marconi Union, which was played to 40 women as they struggled to finish puzzles that would induce stress.

The results of the small experiment amazed them. Turns out that this piece of music helped calm and relax them much more effectively than songs by Enya, Coldplay and even Mozart!

The song has befittingly been named 'Weightless' also helped slow down the heart rate, reduce blood pressure and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, the study also showed.

Marconi Union in collaboration with Lyz Cooper, founder of the British Academy of Sound Therapy, composed the song back in 2011.

As per The Telegraph, Lyz Cooper said, "The song makes use of many musical principles that have been shown to individually have a calming effect.

"By combining these elements in the way Marconi Union have has created the perfect relaxing song.

"It contains a sustaining rhythm that starts at 60 beats per minute and gradually slows to around 50.

"While listening, your heart rate gradually comes to match that beat.

"It is important that the song is eight minutes long because it takes about five minutes for this process, known as entrainment, to occur.

"The fall in heart rate also leads to a fall in blood pressure.

"The harmonic intervals - or gaps between notes - have been chosen to create a feeling of euphoria and comfort.

"And there is no repeating melody, which allows your brain to completely switch off because you are no longer trying to predict what is coming next.

"Instead, there are random chimes, which helps to induce a deeper sense of relaxation.

"The final element is the low, whooshing sounds and hums that are like buddhist chants.

"High tones stimulate but these low tones put you in a trance-like state."

The 8-minute, 8-second song apparently results in a 65 per cent reduction in stress among listeners along with lowering blood pressure, heart rate and breathing speed, and has been deemed 11 per cent more effective than other similar soothing songs by, say, Adele, according to reports by Daily Mail.
