New Delhi: Selfies seem to have become second nature for millennials. Any moment in time, people can be seen stretching out their arms, twisting their wrists in an awkward angle to click that perfect selfie, which will then be uploaded on social media platforms for the world to see.
Weddings, parties, holidays, a casual meeting with friends are just some of the 'normal' moments when people indulge a selfie moment.
However, the world is home to those few who will go to any extent to get the perfect selfie, often putting their lives in danger, some of which have also proven fatal.
But, the risks of clicking selfies are far from ending, it seems, since a new malady can befall those who love to click them – Selfie elbow!
This new phenomenon came about last month, when a television journalist in the US complained of a strange pain in her elbow. On consulting a doctor, it was found that her love for selfies was the reason behind her aching joint, which is why the name, selfie elbow.
The Times of India spoke to a few medical experts in the city who now have a finger on that puzzling pain in the few casualties that have stumbled along, mostly young and with a penchant for going click-click.
As per TOI, 25-year-old Manoj Desai, a model from Santacruz, now has his elbow in a brace, thanks to his penchant for selfies.
Since we would want to prevent such problems from taking place, especially regarding something that is slowly turning in to a habit of the new age, there is some advice that doctors told the leading daily, which are switching arms, pre-selfie stretches and use of selfie stick.
