New Delhi: Medical science is considered a blessing, but there are times it can leave even experts stumped.

The medical condition of a nine-year-old girl has left doctors and medical experts completely baffled.

Katie Renfroe suffers from a condition so rare, that doctors are bewildered and don't know what to diagnose her with.

Katie has an abnormally large head, which was initially believed to be a growth development disorder called megalencephaly which causes overgrowth of the brain. But the medical experts were soon compelled to change their minds.

The condition makes the girl unable to walk or talk and has to be fed via a tube. She often suffers from seizures, which required her to undergo brain surgery when she was only nine-months-old.

As per the Deccan Chronicle, the girl’s mother Angie, from Florida has now been told that the condition is so rare that it could be names after Katie.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said that Katie is very rare and while she has not been diagnosed with anything and the doctors are still trying to find out what she has.

Angie said that she was six months into her pregnancy when the doctors told her that her child was going to have megalencephaly, however, doctors now claim that they do not know what is wrong with her and say that if they discover what it is, they will name it after the nine-year-old.

After Katie's birth, the family travelled to Hollywood, Florida, to visit Doctor Roman Yusupov, a specialist in paediatric genetics and craniofacial disorders.

However, he was unable to identify Katie's condition and give her a proper diagnosis and has been closely monitoring her progress ever since.

Katie has already been subjected to numerous surgeries and attends a school for children with disabilities. But, she is able to work on the computers and interacts with the class with the help of her favourite teacher, the Deccan Chronicle reported.
