Her starving one-year-old son was crying, trying to wake her up and wondering why she hasn't waken up. The hungry child was also trying to breastfeed on his dead mother.

It is said that Sudhir Vidhyarthi, chairman of Damoh child welfare committee (CWC), was informed about the heartbreaking scene by the Damoh station manager at around 6am, saying the mother and child were spotted around 5.30am by a resident.

The woman was identified on Thursday as Sagar resident Phullo Bai, who was on her way to a hospital.

'I am shaken by the picture of accident in Damoh. It is heart-rending to see a hungry baby suckling up to his dead mother,” tweeted Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as he expressed shock about the tragic incident.

Her husband Ganesh, who reached the spot along with his brother Radheshyam and two daughters on learning her death from the media, told reporters that she left home with their youngest child for treatment of her fits.

Police suspect she must have suffered convulsions and fell off the train.

The woman sustained fatal head injuries, however the child is unhurt.

Reports said while the body of the woman was sent for autopsy, the “orphaned” boy was shifted to a children’s home.
