According to the report, the cause of death was manual strangulation due to smothering. As public outrage escalates following the rape and assault of a female doctor in Kolkata, the Supreme Court has initiated suo motu cognizance of the matter, scheduling a hearing for August 20. This comes as junior doctors in several states, including West Bengal and Delhi, abstained from work on Sunday, causing disruptions in healthcare services.

In Kolkata, Sandip Ghosh, the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, appeared before the CBI for the third day in a row, where he was instructed to provide details of his phone communications before and after the hospital incident, according to a central agency official.

Simultaneously, Kolkata Police summoned TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy on Sunday, shortly after he called for the CBI to question the Kolkata police commissioner. Summonses were also issued to former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and two prominent doctors, accused of spreading false information and revealing the identity of the victim.

The Supreme Court has independently recognized the gravity of the incident, in the midst of nationwide protests.
