When the matter came up for hearing, the first bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh and Justice K Kalyanasundaram adjourned it to four weeks.

The petitioner, Vetri Selvan, claimed in his petition that Vasudev was not a law abiding person as he had failed to respond to a state government notice issued in 2012 for demolition of an unauthorised construction by his foundation.

He had not obeyed the order till date and a representation in this regard was also sent to the Centre, but in vain, he submitted.

As he has "deliberately" violated the law of the land, he should not have been conferred Padma Vibhushan for 2017, he added.
