    Bhupendra Patel is Bharatiya Janata Party's soft-spoken face in Gujarat, who has retained the chief ministerial chair for the second straight term. He made his way up in Gujarat politics from the municipality level and is the first from the Kadva Patidar sub-group to be the chief minister.

    Born in Ahmedabad, Patel is an MLA from the Ghatlodia seat, previously held by former Gujarat chief minister and now Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel.

    Fondly called as 'Dada' by many, he is considered to be close to Anandiben Patel.

    In the past, Patel had served as the chairman of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) between 2015 and 2017.

    Before that, he was also the standing committee chairman of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the largest urban local body in Gujarat, between 2010 and 2015.

    Before contesting the Assembly election, he was active in local politics and became a member of Memnagar Municipality in Ahmedabad district, serving as its president twice.

    Patel holds a diploma in civil engineering. He is married to Hetalben, a housewife.

Patel was administered the oath as the 18th chief minister by Governor Acharya Devvrat at a function that was held at the Helipad Ground near the new Secretariat at 2 PM in Gandhinagar. Besides Modi and Shah, chief ministers of other BJP-ruled states also attended the ceremony.

A low-profile BJP leader and the first from the Kadva Patidar sub-group to become CM, Patel had replaced Vijay Rupani in September 2021.


Meanwhile, BJP MLAs Harsh Sanghavi and Jagdish Vishwakarma took oath as minister of state (Independent charge), while Parshottam Solanki, Bachubhai Khabad, Mukesh Patel, Praful Pansheriya, Bhikhusinh Parmar and Kunvarji Halpati were administered the oath as minister of state.


BJP leaders Kanubhai Desai, Rushikesh Patel, Raghavji Patel, Kuvarji Bavaliya, Mulubhai Bera, Kuber Dindor, Bhanuben Babariya, and Balwantsinh Rajput also took oath as cabinet ministers.


In the just-concluded Gujarat Assembly elections, Patel won the Ghatlodia seat with the highest margin of 1.92 lakh votes. The BJP won a seventh straight term by winning record 156 seats in the 182-member House. The Congress won 17 constituencies and AAP 5.
