CBSE, CISCE cancel Class 12 board exams

The CBSE Class 12 board examinations has been cancelled. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

New Delhi: The CBSE Class 12 board examinations has been cancelled. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting was attended by several union ministers including Rajnath Singh, Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dharmendra Pradhan and bureaucrats of various ministries.

PM Modi was briefed on all possible options that emerged following extensive discussions with all states and other stakeholders. "In view of uncertain conditions due to COVID and feedback obtained from stakeholders, it has been decided that Class 12 Board Exams would not be held this year. CBSE to take steps to compile results of Class 12 students as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner," the government said.

Following the Centre's announcement, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) too informed that the ISC Board examinations of Class 12 have been cancelled.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said it is a 'big relief' that the Class 12 board exams have been cancelled. 

While the alternative assessment criteria for the exams has not been finalised by the board yet, officials said, it is expected to be on similar lines as announced for Class 10 which took into account the performance of a student in various tests and exams through the year. It was also decided in the meeting that in case some students desire to take the exams, such an option would be provided to them by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as and when the situation becomes conducive.
