  • Jammu and Kashmir: An unidentified terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on Saturday, while another escaped cordon but was arrested in Pulwama, police said. The forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Mochuwa area of Budgam, following inputs about the presence of ultras there, a police official said.

    "One terrorist was killed in the encounter. An AK assault rifle and a pistol were recovered from him," the official said.

  • World: The global coronavirus caseload has topped 201 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4.27 million and vaccinations soared to over 4.34 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

  • Maharashtra: As many as 30 people across Maharashtra`s Nashik have been infected with Delta variant of COVID-19, informed Nashik District Hospital on Friday. "30 people have been infected with Delta variant in Nashik. 28 patients are from rural areas. 2 patients are from Gangapur and Sadique Nagar. Several patients are from Sinnar, Yeola, Nandgaon, Niphad etc. as well" said Dr Kishore Shrinivas, surgeon at the Nashik District Hospital. (ANI)

Heavy rains lashed several parts of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday. Heavy downpour was witnessed in the Janpath and Connaught Place areas of Delhi.


Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with beneficiaries of PM-GKAY in Madhya Pradesh where he informed that over 80 crore citizens were provided free ration during COVID-19 pandemic. During the video conferencing, PM Modi said, "India gave first priority to the poor, in its strategy to combat the crisis due to Corona. President Ram Nath Kovind hosted a high tea at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the Union council of ministers today. The Rashtrapati Bhavan described it as a courtesy meeting.


In other developments, Bihar eased the COVID-19 restrictions further. Even schools for Classes 9 to 12 along with colleges and coaching institutions reopened from today.
