India`s COVID-19 death toll crossed the 9,000-mark on Saturday with a record daily increase making it the world`s ninth worst-hit nation in terms of fatalities. As per the Health Ministry data the total number of cases across India has risen to 3,20,922 with an increase of 11,927 new cases in 24 hours since Saturday 8 AM, while 311 more fatalities were reported during this period to take the toll to 9,195.

  • Maharashtra: 3,390 new cases were reported today. The total number touched 1,07,958. The death count was increased by 120.

     

  • Punjab: 77 new cases take State's total to 3140, including 717 active cases and 67 deaths.
     

  • West Bengal: 389 new cases and 12 deaths were reported today. The total number of cases in the state is now at 11,087, of which 5,552 are still active. The death count is at 475.

  • Delhi: The total number of containment zones in Delhi is now 242; a total of 67 zones have been de-contained to date.

  • Mission Sagar: INS Kesari returned to Port Louis, Mauritius today to embark the Indian Navy Medical Team, which was disembarked during her last visit to Port Louis on May 23 2020.
     

     

     

  • Karnataka: 176 new cases and 5 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the state is now at 7,000, including 2,956 active cases, 3,955 discharged and 89 deaths (3 due to non-COVID cause).
     

  • Mumbai: 13 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Dharavi area today. The total number of cases in the area is now at 2,043, including 77 deaths.
     

  • Delhi: The meeting of Home Minister Amit Shah with Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, L-G Anil Baijal and Mayors of Delhi Municipal Corporations at MHA, to review COVID-19 preparations, has concluded.
     

  • Uttar Pradesh reports 499 new cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases surged to 4,948, while 8,268 people have recovered.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed steps to contain the pandemic in areas where large numbers of cases are being detected.


During PM Modi's review meeting, it was observed that out of the total cases two-thirds are in five states with an overwhelming proportion of cases in big cities. Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Pune, Indore and Kolkata are among severely hit cities by the pandemic.


 According to global real-time COVID-19 data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, India's count of recoveries is now the sixth-largest in the world after the US, Brazil, Russia, Italy and Germany.


However, India has also entered the top-ten in terms of the number of deaths. It is now ranked ninth after the US, Brazil, UK, Italy, France, Spain, Mexico and Belgium.
