Coronavirus cases in India now stand at 90,927. This figure includes 53,946 active infections, 34,108 recovered cases, 1 migrant patient, and 2,872 deaths. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, more than 70 percent of novel coronavirus patients in India who succumbed to the infection died due to comorbidities.

  • More than 54,900 new COVID-19 cases globally, 2,268 deaths in 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus infections in the world increased to 47,71,910. The number of COVID-19 deaths surged to 3,15,170 while over 18,44,030 have recovered from the virus.

     

  • Telangana: Cabinet meeting tomorrow on lockdown guidelines. The Telangana State Cabinet Meeting will be held at Pragathi Bhavan at 5 PM under the chairmanship of Chief Minister  K Chandrashekhar Rao. The Cabinet meeting is likely to discuss on the fresh guidelines issued by the Centre on Lockdown and the further strategy to be implemented by the State government.

    The Cabinet may also discuss guidelines to be issued for the proposed regulatory agriculture policy of the state government.

  • Haryana: 910 positive cases and 14 deaths have been reported to date in Haryana. 562 patients have been cured/discharged till now.
     

  • Jammu and Kashmir: 62 more COVID-19 cases reported, 16 from Jammu division and 46 from Kashmir division. The total number of cases in the Union Territory (UT) is now at 1,183, including 595 active cases, 575 recovered, and 13 deaths.

  • Mumbai: 1,571 cases and 38 deaths registered today. The total number of cases in the city is now at 19,967 including 734 deaths.
     

  • Maharashtra COVID-19 tally increases to 33,053 after 2,347 new cases; death toll at 1,198.

  • Mumbai: 44 more COVID-19 cases reported in the Dharavi area. The total number of cases in the area rises to 1,242, including 56 deaths.

  • Kerala: 14 more COVID-19 positive cases reported in the state in the past 24 hours. Malappuram - 4, Palakkad - 2, Kozhikode - 2, Kannur - 2 and Kollam, Ernakulam, Trishur, and Kasaragod each one case. 2 of the 14 have come from abroad. 
     

  • Punjab: 18 fresh positive cases reported today, taking the total positive cases to 1,964. Total active cases in the state rise to 536. Death toll at 35.
     

  • Tamil Nadu: Coronavirus cases surpass 11,000. The total jumped to 11,224 after 639 positive cases were reported. Active cases - 6,971. Discharged - 4,172. The death count at 78.

    A total of 13 Vande Bharat passengers tested positive and total of 2 Rajdhani special train returnees were reported positive.

  • Cabinet Secretary to hold a meeting with the top state officials at 9 PM today. All Chief Secretaries, DGPs, Principal Secy, Home Secy & Health Secy to attend the meeting.
     

  • Karnataka: 55 new cases reported in the state today taking the total number of cases to 1,147. Total active cases - 600. Discharged - 509. Total COVID-19 deaths - 37. 
     

  • Karnataka extends COVID-19 lockdown in the state till May 19 midnight. The guidelines and norms as followed during Coronavirus Lockdown 3 will remain in place till May 19 midnight or till further notice.

  • Bihar: 58 more COVID-19 confirmed cases take the state's total to 1,251.

  • Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh: Total of 20 lakh migrants, mostly from Bihar and West Bengal, have registered with Maharashtra govt to return to their home states.

  • IX 434 ready for departure to Kochi from Dubai shortly with 179 passengers on board including 35 pregnant women, 46 medical cases, 53 stranded workers and labourers and 13 sr citizens among others.

  • Andhra Pradesh: COVID-19 toll rises to 50 with a fatality in Krishna district. The total tally of cases jumped to 2,380 with 25 new cases; active cases - 747.

     

  • Tamil Nadu: COVID-19 lockdown extended till May 31 with more relaxations.
     

  • Karnataka: One new case reported in the state till 12 noon. Total tally stands at 1146 which includes 611 active cases, 497 recovered/discharged cases and death toll at 37.

  • Delhi: 422 new coronavirus cases and 19 deaths reported in the national capital in the last 24 hours. Total tally at 9755.

  • Odisha: 91 new COVID19 positive cases positive reported in the state, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 828, death toll 5 as per the Odisha Health Department.

  • China: 17 new coronavirus cases reported in the country, including 12 asymptomatic infections, while officials in Wuhan, where the outbreak originated, continued vigorous testing of its over 11 million residents after new clusters of COVID-19 emerged in parts of the city. (PTI input)

The number of COVID-19 cases in India surpassed that of China that has reported a total of 82,933 cases as of May 16.


India's 80 per cent of coronavirus cases are from 30 municipal areas spread across 12 states, UTs and top health ministry officials on Saturday held a meeting with senior officers and district magistrates from these areas. These areas are in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Odisha. Maharashtra remains the worst hot state with a total number of cases rising to 30,706 and 1,135 deaths.


An emphasise was made that added attention needs to be accorded to the timely tracing of patients to improve recovery percentage, which currently stands at 35.09 per cent.
