India`s total number of COVID-19 cases jumps to 1,73,763 which includes 86,422 active cases, 82,369 cured cases and 4,971 deaths, as per the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.

  • Maharashtra: Total cases increased to 65,168. There were 2,940 new cases in the last 24 hours. The death count surged to 2197
     

  • Haryana: 202 new positive cases reported today, taking the total number of positive cases to 1923, of which 932 are active cases. The death toll stands at 20.

  • Madhya Pradesh to extend COVID-19 lockdown till June 15, says CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

  • Odisha: State's tally increased to 1,819 with 96 new cases. The active cases stand at 833.

  • Assam: 43 more people test COVID-19 positive, the state's tally rose to 1,100.

  • Nagaland: Eleven people who returned to the state from Chennai have tested COVID-19 positive. The total number of active cases in the state rose to 36.

    Nagaland had remained COVID-19-free till Monday when three returnees from Chennai tested positive for the virus.

  • Uttar Pradesh: A total of 4,462 patients have recovered to date. The death toll in the state stands at 204. The recovery rate is at 59%.
     

  • Bihar: Two more deaths reported in Siwan and Bhagalpur. The death count increased to 20 in the state.
     

  • Union Ministry to give Rs 1500 subsistence allowance to each transgender person who has sought assistance from the ministry. An amount of about 73 lakh rupees has been released through direct beneficiary transfer (DBT) to about 4922 transgender persons across the country.

  • Assam: 43 new cases reported in the state, total tally rises to 1100.

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 2,682 new coronavirus cases and 116 deaths, and also saw a record 8,381 COVID-19 patients being discharged from hospitals, the state health department said. The total number of coronavirus cases in the state now stands at 62,228 while the death toll is at 2,098.


Mumbai has recorded 36,932 cases and 1,173 deaths while 16,008 patients have recovered. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has reported 47,482 cases and 1,397 deaths.


Some scientists speculate that India will witness the peak of coronavirus at the beginning of July, while the World Health Organization (WHO) believes that COVID-19 cases will start decreasing in India in late July. International Rating agency Standard and Poor’s, however, opined that apex of coronavirus will not arrive before September and this would lead to the decline of the Indian economy by 5 percent next year.


Global deaths from coronavirus have now passed 3,60,000 with 58,71,347 confirmed cases on Friday (May 29), according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
