NEW DELHI: Several women athletes and sportspersons, who have brought laurels to the country, were felicitated at ZEE News Fairplay Awards in New Delhi on Thursday. The awards, first introduced in 2018, honour women athletes who have made their mark at international level.

The event kicked off with ZMCL MD Ashok Venkatramani's speech welcoming all.



Ace Indian shooter Anjum Moudgil was one of the first to be honoured followed by table tennis player Manika Batra who received the award.




Others felicitated at the event include shooters Rahi Jeevan Sarnobat and Shreyasi Singh, weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, wrestler Vinesh Phogat and badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa.



Heena Sidhu, who won a gold and silver in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, was also felicitated at the awards ceremony. Her husband Rounak Pandit accepted the award on her behalf.


 



Indian 4x400m women's relay team, which clinched its fifth consecutive Asiad gold in the 2018 Games at Jakarta-Palembang, was also honoured at the event.


 



Former Indian cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi felicitated mountaineer Bachendri Pal with Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1984, Pal became the first Indian woman to summit Mount Everest. Raja Randhir Singh, 1978 Asian Games Panelist and member of International Olympic Association awarded Suma Shirur.



Teenage shooter Manu Bhaker and professional sprinter Dutee Chand were also awarded for their achievements.
