New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid his tribute to martyred soldiers who lost their lives in encounters with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday.
Four Army men, including a Major, and an equal number of militants were on Tuesday killed while 8 other security personnel and a civilian were injured in two separate encounters in Kashmir's Handwara and Bandipora.
Major Satish Dahiya, Rifleman Ravi Kumar, Paratrooper Dharmender Kumar and Gunner Astosh Kumar lost their lives in the operation.
An encounter took place in Parray Mohalla of Hajin area of Bandipora district on Tuesday morning.
The gunbattle erupted after security forces cordoned off the area following information about presence of militants there, the police official said.
As the security forces were closing in, they came under fire from the hiding militants, the official said, adding 10 security personnel, including an officer, were injured in this.
