Portion of Burdwan railway station collapses, several injured
A portion of the main entrance of the Burdwan railway station collapsed on Saturday (January 4) injuring several people while a few are still trapped underneath.
Burdwan: A portion of the main entrance of the Burdwan railway station collapsed on Saturday (January 4) injuring several people while a few are still trapped underneath.
The incident took place at around 8.15 om, train movement on platform one has been suspended since. Two fire tenders, disaster management group, GRP and RPF personnel rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations. Injured persons were rushed to the Burdwan Medical College.
Sources say no persons are trapped inside the debris.
CPRO of Eastern Railway, Nikhil Chakraborty said, “It is an unfortunate incident. Our priority is to carry out rescue operations and to see that there are no persons trapped inside. We have rushed doctors and ambulances to the spot.” Chakraborty also added that the collapse occurred while beautification work was being conducted.
Train operations on platform one of the railway station has been partially affected due to the incident.
Meanwhile, police evacuated the area preventing passengers to go close to the collapse site. Rescue operations are currently underway.
