G Devaraje Gowda, a BJP leader and advocate who was arrested for alleged molestation and rape, was taken to Holenarasipura on Saturday for questioning, news agency PTI quoted police as saying. An FIR was filed against Gowda following a complaint from a 36-year-old woman from Hassan district who claimed he molested and raped her under the guise of assisting her in selling her property. On April 1, a case of molestation was filed against Gowda. The woman approached police again on Friday, alleging that he had also raped her, PTI quoted police officer as saying.

The Hiriyur Police arrested the BJP leader at the Gulihal toll gate in Chitradurga district late Friday night. He was arrested following a tip-off from the Hassan police. Holenarasipur police arrived in Chitradurga on Saturday morning. Following the legal process, Devaraje Gowda was handed over to the Holenarasipura police.


Gowda ran for the 2023 assembly election on the BJP ticket but was defeated by JD(S) MLA and former minister H D Revanna. He also claimed that he informed the BJP leadership last year about Prajwal Revanna's alleged sexual abuse of several women and warned the party not to give a Lok Sabha ticket to the JD(S) MP from Hassan.
