US President Donald Trump talks to PM Narendra Modi over phone, confirms White House
Donald Trump on Tuesday talked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone.
Delhi: United States President Donald Trump talked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone late on Tuesday, White House Spokesperson Sean Spicer told reporters.
Earlier in the day today, the White House had released Trump`s schedule for today and had said that - "President speaks with Indian Prime Minister at 1 pm Washington Time. The scheduled time for the talks between the two leaders according to Indian standard time is 11: 30 PM."
PM Modi is the fifth foreign leader to hold talks with Trump after he was sworn in as the 45th US President on Friday.
Trump assumed office as US President on January 20.
Trump, 70, took the oath of office in front of about 800,000 people who braved chilly weather to gather on the National Mall in the center of the capital to celebrate the rank political outsider, who defied all odds to defeat political heavyweight Hillary Clinton in the November polls.
In his address to the nation from the US Capitol, Trump sought friendship with the nations of the world, but made it clear that the US will do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.
At that time, PM Modi had congratulated Trump on assuming the office as the US President and had said that he looked forward to working with him to further deepen the bilateral ties and realise the full potential of cooperation.
"Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on assuming office as US President. Best wishes in leading USA to greater achievements in the coming years," Modi had tweeted immediately after the American leader had taken oath.
"Looking forward to working with President @realDonaldTrump to further deepen India-US ties and realise the full potential of our cooperation," he said in another tweet.
