"An FIR under various sections of Ranbir Penal code including 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons) was registered against PDP MLA Qamar Hussain and his PSOs," a police officer said.

He said the case was registered against the legislator and his guards following a complaint registered by Ayaz Ahmad of Palullian Dassal village.

The complainant claimed that the PDP leader and his PSOs intercepted and assaulted him over a past "political issue", the officer said adding Ahmad also claimed that the MLA threatened to kill him.

However, Hussain, an advocate by profession, denied the charges in a statement, claiming it was a conspiracy against him.
