New Delhi: Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Abu Dujana was on Tuesday killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district.

A local militant identified as Arif Lilhaari was also killed in the gunfight that took place in Hakripora village.


In a statement, the Army confirmed that wanted Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Abu Dujana was among two militants killed in the encounter in Pulwama. The operation has concluded.


Dujana's killing in the encounter is said to be the biggest success for the security forces in their anti-militancy operations.

- Abu Dujana was Lashkar-e-Toiba's Kashmir chief.


- He was the most wanted militant commander in Jammu and Kashmir.


- The LeT militant carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh.


- He was wanted in more than three dozen attacks on security forces, including the 2015 Udhampur attack on a BSF convoy.


- Abu Dujana, the resident of Gilgit-Baltistan, joined LeT when he was 17.


- He infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in 2010.


- He made his first dramatic appearance at a funeral of local Lashkar-e-Toiba militant in 2014 in Kakpora area of Pulwama. Dujana also attended the funeral of Hizbul Commander Burhan wani in Tral area of south Kashmir in July 2016.


- After Abu Qasim's killing in October 2016, Abu Dujana was made the ‘commander’ of Lashkar-e-Toiba unit in south Kashmir taking control of four districts.


- Abu Dujana had managed to escape from the security net five times in the past.
