Vijay narrowly missed his fifty, but Pujara made sure he didn't commit the same error. The Saurashtra batsman got to his fifty with a four off Elgar. Kohli joined him in the middle and looked good. The current partnership is 30 runs. India lead by 142 runs with 8 wickets remaining.

  • Over 30 | Score 82/1 (Pujara 37*, Vijay 45*)

Vijay is inching close to his second fifty in the Test. Pujara has been solid as ever. With no Dale Steyn, the SA skipper has plenty of problems facing him now.

  • Over 25 | Score 67/1 (Pujara 28*, Vijay 39*)

Vijay and Pujara have been exceptional in the post-tea session. The current partnership is 58 runs with India's lead now at 84 runs.

  • Over 15 | Score 45/1 (Pujara 16*, Vijay 29*)

Since the departure of Dhawan, the two batsmen in the middle have looked assured. Interestingly, Pujara has shown aggression in phases in this innings.

  • Over 9 | Score 24/1 (Vijay 18*, Pujara 6*)

Pujara and Vijay need to put their heads down and negotiate this tough passage of play. Dean Elgar remains the biggest threat as the pitch continues to wear down further.

  • Over 7 | Score 13/1 (Pujara 2*, Vijay 11*)

South African bowlers have been on the money so far in the second innings. Harmer, Elgar and Philander were exceptional. India heads into tea, leading by 30 runs with 9 wickets remaining.

  • Over 3 | Score 9/0 (Pujara 0*, Vijay 9*)

Dhawan pushed at Philander's delivery, which was angled across him, to edge it straight to the second slip. That's two ducks in this Test for Dhawan. Pujara is the new man in.

    S Dhawan c de Villiers b Philander 0 (8b)

  • Over 68 | Score 184

Tahir edged Ashwni's ball on to his thigh pad to pop it to the close in fielder. That's Ashwin's 150th Test wicket. He ends with a five-wicket haul to help India take a 17-run lead.

  • Over 67 | Score 183/9 (Rabada 0*, Tahir 4*)

Mishra produced the moment of the morning as he sent AB back into the hut. His vicious leg spinner pitched on middle, beat the right-hander's bat and hit the off-stump. Had to be such a ball to get rid of AB who was looking immovable.

    AB de Villiers b Mishra 63 (83b)

  • Over 66 | Score 179/8 (De Villiers 63*, Rabada 0*)

Steyn threw his wicket away. The right-hander stepped out of his crease and tried to hit Jadeja's ball out of the PCA stadium. Unfortunately for the Proteas, Steyn completely missed the line of the ball and was stumped by Saha.

Jadeja had pushed it a touch quicker and it slides through the gap and down the leg side, Saha does the rest.

  • Over 62 | Score 170/6 ( De Villiers 60*, Steyn 0*)

Eventful over comes to an end. Mishra could have had two wickets in that over. After trapping Harmer LBW off a vicious leg spinner, Mishra missed a caught and bowled chance, as Steyn hit the ball straight back at him.

  • Over 62 | Score 168/6 (de Villiers 60*, Harmer 7*)

Kohli introduced pace into the attack in the form of Aaron for the first time since lunch. The commentator are baffled by this decision. They believe there is no chance the pacer can dismiss De Villiers on this track.

  • ABdV continues his fine form on this tour. What a player!

  • Over 59 | Score 160/6 (De Villiers 53*, Harmer 5*)

AB continued his fight against the Indian spinner, as we got to his fifty with a fine sweep shot off Jadeja's ball through cow corner for a boundary. The Mohali crowd cheer him on!

  • Over 55 | Score 143/6 (De Villiers 38*, Harmer 3*)

Jadeja produced a ripper to dismiss Philander. The left-armer's tossed up delivery pitched on middle and found an outside edge off the right-hander's bat. Rahane completed a low catch at first slip. Once again, Jadeja's landing foot was flirting with the no ball line. But the TV umpires delivered a verdict in favor of Jaddu.

    V Philander c Rahane b Jadeja 3 (27b)

  • Over 51 | Score 130/5 (Philander 3*, De Villiers 29*)

Kohli persisted with the Jadeja-Ashwin combo immediately after lunch. Despite the match being evenly poised, the presence of AB means the Proteas will fancy their chances of taking the lead.

  • Over 49 | Score 93/3 | (de Villiers 26*, Philander 2*)

LUNCH: After a tough first hour, Indian spinners found their rhythm and picked three more wickets. Jadeja was extremely unlucky as he dismissed AB de Villiers twice, once the umpire thought there was no edge and the second one came off a frontfoot no-ball.

With Philander at the crease, it remains to be seen how well can the tail-enders support AB de Villiers, who has looked off-colour so far.

  • Over 45 | Score 93/3 | (Amla 43*, de Villiers 7*)

Ashwin bowled a brilliant 16th over where he removed Hashim Amla and Dane Villas in one over. Amla charged down the wicket to Ashwin, it was a top off-spin and even though Saha failed to collect it, it hit his chest and deflected back to remove the bails while Amla was still outside the crease.

New batsman Dane Villas attempted a big stroke off the third ball he faced in the same over, mistimed it towards square leg and Jadeja took an excellent catch. The spinners are finally finding their rhythm and it would be interesting to see AB's approach now.

  • Over 45 | Score 93/3 | (Amla 43*, de Villiers 7*)

Lady luck is not favouring Jadeja at all today. He once again bowled a peach of a delivery to AB, it spun away from him, AB got an edge and was caught, the umpire raised his finger, but it was a frontfoot no-ball! The third umpire took his time and after a lot of contemplation, he made his decision. AB gets another life on 7. Not good signs!

  • Over 40 | Score 93/3 | (Amla 38*, de Villiers 5*)

Ashwin finally got India the much-needed breakthrough in the 38th over, when Elgar attempted a slog-sweep and got a top edge which wnet towards Jadeja at short third man. The wicket also ended the 76-run partnership for the third wicket.

AB de Villiers was the next man in and he got a life when Dharamsena refused a caught behind appeal off the bowing of Ravindra Jadeja. The ball sharply spun away from AB, the replays showed there was a faint edge and Saha took a clean catch behind the wickets but umpire wasn't interested. AB was batting on 0 when he got a life and that blunder by the umpire could hurt the Indian bowlers a lot.

    D Elgar c Jadeja b Ashwin 37 (123b)

  • Over 35 | Score 77/2 | (Elgar 35*, Amla 29*)

South Africa have dominated the first hour as India continue to search for their third breakthrough. There was a chance created by Ashwin, where Amla edged one towards leg slip, but despite a valiant effort from Kohli, he couldn't take the catch. Kohli would be worried as these two batsmen look settle now.

  • Over 31 | Score 61/2 | (Elgar 31*, Amla 17*)

Kohli made two bowling changes where he replaced Mishra and Yadav with Aaron and Ashwin. But Amla and Elgar have played them well so far and it's a matter of time that Jadeja is introduced into the attack with Ashwin bowling from other end.

  • Over 27 | Score 36/2 | (Elgar 24*, Amla 15*)

Mishra and Yadav continue to bowl. Ashwin and Jadeja, two tweakers who are expected to cause maximum damage, are yet to bowl today. While Mishra has looked in control, Yadav once again is looking very inconsistent.

  • Over 23 | Score 36/2 | (Elgar 21*, Amla 9*)

India have already missed out on an opportunity! Amit Mishra created a chance in the third over of the day when Elgar edged one and Saha dropped the catch!

Amit Mishra bowled the first over of the second day for India and surprisingly, Umesh Yadav began the proceedings from the other end. Ever since Ashwin picked the first wicket on Day 1, he has hardly bowled. Virat Kohli is a positive captain and he should soon introduce spin from both ends.

  • For those that missed the action on an eventful first day in Mohali, here is a neat highlights package.

  • After a dismal batting show on Day 1, the home side will be hoping their spinners turn things around on Day 2.

Live score and updates from Day 2 of the first Test match between India and South Africa being played at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, Chandigarh. The first day belonged to the spinners who picked nine wickets out of 12.
