Constable pushed down from railway bridge by drunk men, 2 held
A constable was severely injured on Friday after he was allegedly assaulted and pushed down from a footover bridge by a group of drunk miscreants at Nalla Sopara railway station here, police said.
Palghar: A constable was severely injured on Friday after he was allegedly assaulted and pushed down from a footover bridge by a group of drunk miscreants at Nalla Sopara railway station here, police said.
The incident took place in the wee hours around 1.30 AM when constable Suryakant Elhe, who was on duty spotted a group of drunkards quarrelling among themselves on the FoB, said PI Mahesh Bhagwe of Vasai Railway Police station.
When Elhe asked them to vacate the place and tried to stop them from creating nuisance, he was allegedly pushed down from the bridge. The constable who sustained severe wounds was immediately rushed to the hospital and is out of danger, said the police officer.
Two persons from the group-- Salim Shaikh, 30 and Rajesh Devgadi, 32--have been arrested in connection with the incident. They have been booked under sections 353 and 333 of the IPC.
Further probe into the crime was being carried out by local Nalla Sopara police.
