Mumbai: As the south-west monsoon has reached Vengurla in south Konkan, the Met department today forecast rain or thundershowers at many places in Maharashtra.

Apart from south Konkan, other areas such as north Konkan, south-central Maharashtra, north-central Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to receive rains or thundershowers at many places, said K S Hosalikar, deputy director, India Meteorological Department, Mumbai.


North and south-central Maharashtra and Marathwada are known for large-scale production of food-grains and pulses.


The IMD also predicted rains or thundershowers in a few places in west and east Vidarbha.


South Konkan is expected to receive "heavy to very heavy" rainfall from the morning of June 11, it said.


South-central Maharashtra too is likely to receive heavy to very heavy showers in 48 hours from the morning of June 12 at isolated places.


Similar warning has been issued for 72 hours from the morning of June 12 for isolated places in north-central Maharashtra.
