Bihar cops seize 17 mobile phones, worth Rs 1.5 lakh from Siwan jail

Patna: Acting on a tip-off, Bihar police on Saturday conducted a raid at the Siwan jail and seized at least 15 mobile phones from the possession of prisoners.
Apart from cellphones, several sim cards were also recovered during the raid. The phones and sim cards were hidden in a bathroom in one of the prison wards.
According to sources, it was the same ward from where the alleged seven former sharpshooters of former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin were shifted to different jails in the state on Friday, a day after the bahubali was transferred to the isolation cell in Bhagalpur central jail.
Killing of Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranajn on May 13 and later shifting of Shahabuddin to Bhagalpur jail panicked his aides, who were lodged in Siwan jail and they atempted to hide the prohibited items, the source added.
As per the report, the cellphones and sim cards were recovered from beneath the floor of prison wards. The police officers recovered the items after breaking the concrete floor of the bathroom.
It would be interesting to know that all the cell phones recovered from the inmates expensive sets with each of them worth Rs 30,000. The 17 cellphones seized in the raid worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh, added the source.
