"For the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), elections in Bihar are matter of life and death. If they lose this election `which is more likely to happen`, would raise a big question mark on the leadership of Narendra Modi led BJP-government in Centre," NCP leader Tariq Anwar told ANI.

"It would further be very difficult for BJP to run the government if they lose the upcoming elections," he added.

A leading daily had published a report that Prime Minister Modi will go full steam in Bihar on return from US.

"Prime Minister Modi will plunge into campaign for Bihar elections soon after his return from the US. Modi will kickstart with a rally on October 2, two days after he gets back on September 29, for the five-phased poll in the state, sources said," report said.

Elections for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held in five phases between October 12 and November 5.

The counting of votes will take place on November 8.

The term of the current Bihar State Assembly expires on November 29.
