Raipur: Eight Naxals were killed in a joint operation by Chhattisgarh Police and Andhra Pradesh Greyhounds in Sukma district on Tuesday.

Sukma is the southernmost district of the state and is a known stronghold of the Maoists. The encounter took place along the Chhattisgarh, Telangana border.


With today's encounter, the total number of ultras killed in Bastar this year has risen to 40. The operation was part of the ongoing 'Mission 2016 Bastar' being carried out by the security forces.


In January, security forces had killed 23 Maoists, an all-time record. Eight were killed in February.
